4 Things I Love About In-Home Family Photography Sessions
One of the most fun parts of booking a family photography session with me is picking the location. We’re lucky to live in an area with a ton of unique and gorgeous outdoor locations. But sometimes the best location for your family’s photography session is the one you know best - your home.
Here are four reasons why I absolutely love photographing families in their own home.
Your home is your special place. Sure, epic family adventures are great and make for amazing pictures. But your home is the spot where your most normal, everyday memories and milestones happen - the ones that aren’t always captured in photographs. It’s where your babies said their first words, took their first steps, and tried their first favorite foods. It’s where you kiss them good night and tuck them safely into bed. And where you sneak back into their bedroom to peek at them while they’re sleeping, just because you miss them.
Your home is a comfortable space for the entire family. You are in your safe place, where you feel like yourselves. It’s easy to open up when you feel relaxed and at-ease. Some kids may feel shy at the start of a photography session. That’s normal! There’s a new person with a big, bulky camera talking to them. Being in a familiar spot helps them feel comfortable and open up, especially when they’ve got a new friend (me!) who is super excited to see all of their awesome toys and favorite books.
In-home sessions offer lots of options - indoors and outside. If your child is feeling quiet and mellow, you can snuggle on the couch while reading a book or sit on the living room floor building blocks. Do your kids have a ton of energy? Break the rules a little bit and let them jump on your bed. Is it a sunny beautiful day? Let’s get into the backyard for a game of freeze tag. Whether we do a full-length Family Story Session or a shorter Family Portrait Session, your in-home session will always include an activity that your family loves.
In-home sessions are easy and super convenient. You don’t have to buckle your wiggly toddler into their carseat. You have snacks available without having to pack anything up. And potty breaks are a piece of cake!
Some families worry that their homes aren’t “photo-worthy.” That’s simply not true. All I need to make fantastic images in your home is a light-filled window or two. Don’t worry about changing your decor, deep cleaning, or rearranging the furniture. Your home is perfect because your family is in it and it’s full of love.
