Family Beach Photos in La Jolla

When you think of family photos in San Diego, you think about the beach, right? Of course you do! We have amazing beaches in San Diego, obviously (just ask Conde Nast Traveler), and I firmly believe that every family deserves at least one amazing photo session at the beach. 

Qualities that make a spot perfect for a family beach day aren’t always the same features that I want when planning a family photography session. So what do I look for when picking a beach location? I love a spot that has a variety of scenery, color, and different backdrops. A little bit of drama can have a big impact. 

Windansea Beach in La Jolla is one of my favorite beaches for family photos. It can definitely bring the drama with its big rocks and strong waves. You might even get some surfers in the background! I also love that we can get this iconic shot of the San Diego coastline. 

A word to the wise… Windansea has a bit of a steep climb to get down to the beach, and it doesn’t have bathrooms or facilities, so it’s not the best option for families with very small children, strollers, or mobility challenges (I can recommend spots that are more easily accessible). But for adventurous families with older children or teens, Windansea Beach is a thumbs up.
